“Accelerated Living, one of my other favorite Bay Area bands, luckily we've had the opportunity to tour with them a lot. An amazing live band, they got a new guitar player now and a new bass player, and total dueling guitar kind of thing, killer solos, killer drumming, good vocals, good songwriting, catchy riffs.”
Accelerated Living
The 2009 release from this Portland-based rock band unfolds with a raw energy that captures the essence of early 2000s alternative rock while flirting with elements of stoner rock and punk. The album’s production is notably gritty, evoking a sense of immediacy. Guitars are heavily distorted, creating a wall of sound that is both abrasive and melodic, while the rhythm section maintains a driving, almost relentless tempo throughout. Drums hit with a punchy clarity, propelling tracks forward and anchoring the spiraling guitar work. "Accelerated Living" distinguishes itself within its genre by blending heavy riffs with introspective lyrics, reflecting a societal disillusionment that resonates with the listener. There’s a tangible sense of urgency in tracks like “We Are All Dead,” where the interplay between frenetic instrumentation and contemplative vocals explores themes of existential angst. The standout track “The Bloody” showcases the band’s knack for crafting catchy hooks amidst their heavy sound, juxtaposing melodic choruses with thunderous verses. Culturally, the album emerges from a post-9/11 landscape, where feelings of uncertainty and chaos permeate everyday life, reflected in the lyrics' underlying tension. Saviours adeptly channel this zeitgeist, making their music feel both timely and timeless. Each song is an exploration of inner turmoil and societal collapse, all wrapped in a package that is sonically engaging and intellectually stimulating. It’s a compelling listen that invites both headbanging and contemplation, marking a significant entry in the rock canon of its era.
