“Don't really know anything about Aaron Dilloway or Lucrecia Dalt, both kind of slightly avant-garde electronic people who I think make music that is more austere on their own. With this, it's a strangely poppy avant-garde album in that it's kind of got about 11 songs on it and they're all just song lengths, but they're just the weirdest little kind of amorphous sample-based kind of things.”
Lucy & Aaron
Merging the experimental with the transcendent, this collaboration between Aaron Dilloway and Lucrecia Dalt offers a unique exploration of trance that defies traditional genre boundaries. The album features a kaleidoscope of textures, blending Dilloway's affinity for tape manipulation and found sounds with Dalt's ethereal vocalizations and intricate electronic arrangements. The result is an immersive soundscape that ebbs and flows, creating a meditative atmosphere that invites deep listening. Throughout the album, pulsing rhythms interlace with organic samples, conveying a sense of both grounding and detachment. Tracks like "Ascent" highlight Dalt's haunting voice, layered over Dilloway's drones and modulated synths, enveloping listeners in a dreamlike state. Meanwhile, "Echoes of the Past" utilizes stark contrasts between dissonant tones and melodious passages, creating tension that is both unsettling and captivating. What distinguishes this work is its ability to transcend the confines of conventional trance music. Instead of merely driving beats, Dilloway and Dalt focus on creating a narrative through sound, drawing from a wide array of influences, including minimalism and the avant-garde. This approach not only reflects their diverse backgrounds but also resonates with contemporary listeners seeking depth in their musical experiences. Released in 2021, the album arrives at a time when many artists are exploring the intersection of technology and organic sound. In this context, "Lucy & Aaron" stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and the endless possibilities inherent in sound manipulation, making it a noteworthy entry in the evolving landscape of experimental music.
