Black And Blue

The Rolling Stones
Rock 2025

With its release in 2025, "Black And Blue (Super Deluxe)" revisits a pivotal moment in The Rolling Stones’ discography, encapsulating the raw energy and eclectic influences that defined the mid-1970s. This expanded edition breathes new life into the original 1976 album, showcasing the band’s foray into diverse musical styles, from funk-infused rock to soulful ballads. The instrumentation is rich and textured, featuring layers of guitar work from Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, complemented by the intricate rhythms of drummer Charlie Watts and bassist Bill Wyman. The album’s production, marked by a gritty yet polished sound, captures the essence of a band at a crossroads, blending their blues roots with emerging disco and reggae influences. Key tracks like “Fool to Cry” reveal a softer, more vulnerable side, driven by lush strings and Jagger’s emotive vocals, while “Hot Stuff” pulsates with a danceable groove, showcasing the band’s adaptability. The inclusion of previously unreleased demos and live recordings in this deluxe edition offers an intimate glimpse into the creative process, emphasizing the band’s experimental spirit during a time of significant cultural change. "Black And Blue" stands distinctive in The Rolling Stones' oeuvre, reflecting their willingness to evolve while still honoring their foundational blues influences. This super deluxe edition not only highlights the rich legacy of the original release but also invites new listeners to explore the multifaceted sound that has kept the band relevant for decades.

“Rolling Stones Black and Blue, I really want this for one song. It's got, I think it's the first or second track on this record, 'Hand of Fate,' and I guess it was about a year ago or a little bit over a year ago Gene and I were traveling to do some recording for our upcoming record, and we just listened to that song over and over again. It's a really, really great era of the Stones for me; it's got this really cool open, bluesy, raw kind of sound that I don't know, I'm just a sucker for it.”
